The seasons roll inexorably on and here we are, oiling the hinges of the British ‘Summertime’ door to make sure it doesn’t squeak too much when it closes at the end of the month. And that means that the Penguin sailing season has finished – Jonathan Walton’s Maine cruise ended the club sailing activities on a high note. With warm sunshine and problems with too little wind rather than too much, only a morning’s fog masked the delight on the crewmember’s faces.
The September Committee meeting was held at the SS Great Britain, again courtesy of the lovely Julie. Lasting a mere 4 hours, much was discussed, including a query on what exactly the club insurance pays for. Our worthy Commodore James Raby has supplied an explanatory document that I felt would be beneficial to link to this newsletter – if it’s not your thing, feel free to ignore it. However, for many Penguins the more important issue is ‘what are the cruises for next year?’ Well, we have offerings for Easter Scotland, Holland, and a Circumnavigation of Scotland via Orkney to tempt you. They are virtually finalised but not yet on web site.

We are aware that the website is not totally up to date, and proffer our apologies for that – fear not, moves are afoot to bring the Penguins into a Century not too far from our own. So meanwhile, before the Annual Mailing comes out in early November containing finer details for the AGM and all of next year’s cruises, if you have a burning desire to sign up for one I’d advise direct contact with the relevant Cruise Organiser. We will endeavor to get the cruises onto the website as soon as they are ready.
This is also the time of year for me to start nagging inform you about the AGM and Ceilidh.
AGM & PENGUIN PARTY – 16th January 2016 - FLYER ATTACHED
This is a reminder for next year’s diary. We’ve got an alternative ceilidh band this year and if you would like to invite friends / family for the evening do, they would be most welcome. RSVP asap as we appreciate knowing any apologies and number attending. EMAIL : Marian Keall - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or Jane Fanshawe This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
We are trying a different Ceilidh Band, recommended to us repeatedly by Marion Percy, and are happy to ‘widen the dancing circle’ to make the evening go with a bang. Fear not, there will be a lack of excess noise, quiet intervals, and plenty of gossip space, but also enough people to reduce the pressure on the ‘marginal dancers’ amongst us. As ever, accommodation is available either in local B&B’s or in local Penguin nests. I’m nominating Jane Fanshawe as a good Accommodation Officer, though she won’t know it till she reads this. Email as above. So, make an entry in your diary, and come and celebrate the prospect of the New Season with us on the 16th, as well as hearing tales of derring-do from 2015 and relishing anticipations of pleasure for 2016.
I’ll send out a New Year Newsletter, but until then watch your inboxes (or letter boxes for snail mail) for the excitement of the Annual Penguin Mailing.
I wish you all full Christmas Stockings and warm tootsies.
Jonty
