We have booked the Rustler 36, “Wild Betany” and the Sigma 36 “Enigma of Tamar” from Cornish Cruising in Falmouth for 10 days from Saturday 7th June 2008.

The aim, and this is of course subject to the weather conditions being suitable, is to make an overnight passage early in the cruise, possibly to Roscoff and then to South West Brittany via the Chenal du Four and Raz de Seine, if weather permits.

We will spend as long as possible cruising the Brittany coast before returning to Falmouth. The 10-day format gives us a good chance of making this a very satisfying cruise, with a mix of some longish passages, with gentler cruising and interesting coastal navigation. This is a wonderfully intricate coast, full of anchorages and small harbours, with a great tradition of food and drink and hospitality to yachtsmen. In early to mid-June it should still be relatively uncrowded.

The two yachts are well equipped for a cruise of this type and we will sail them with only 5 out of 6 berths filled for comfort. The Sigma has radar, which may come in handy if we get poor visibility on the crossings. The Rustler has a powerful engine and a cruising chute.

The cost will be £440 per person per berth, to include yacht charter, organisation, food on board, fuel and mooring fees but not transport to the boarding point and from the leaving point, or personal travel insurance. (This is equivalent to £308 for a 7-day cruise). A non-returnable deposit of £100 secures your place (first come, first served), with the balance of £340 payable by 29th February.

The lower age limit is 14. Forms for under-18s must be signed by the parent or guardian, and 16-17 year-olds are asked to sign for themselves in addition. This is a requirement for insurance, and you will not be able to embark if the form is not fully completed in advance. Under-16s sign to indicate that they know what is expected of them. Please note that everyone on the cruise must have personal travel insurance. I will ask for details later – but please ensure that your insurance covers offshore cruising.

Please fill in the booking form with as much detail as possible, this helps us to get the right balance of skills on each yacht. Penguin invites all to come sailing, whatever your previous experience – if any, but please note that all participants must be able to swim 25 metres. If you wish to sail with a particular person, please say so on the form: and I will try to arrange it. If you have any special dietary needs or medical conditions, please let us know: it will be kept confidential. Next of kin details will be passed to the charter company.

Finally, if you have ANY questions, please do not hesitate to contact me – Lyn Ballard.
