With Easter falling so early this year, we are breaking with tradition and moving the “Easter” cruise by a couple of weeks – in the hope of better weather and calmer seas. In another break with tradition, we are also chartering from a different marina, although one we have used in the past.

The 2008 “Easter Season" will be just one week, starting on Saturday 12th April and finishing on Saturday 19th April at Alba Sailing, Dunstaffnage Marina, near Oban. Full joining instructions will be provided about a month before the cruise.

The Easter Season continues to be a firm favourite and is an essential introduction to what Penguin is all about. Conditions are usually mixed, you can expect some strong winds but we always try to plan our passages to avoid long upwind sections. The anchorages are always splendidly empty at this time of year, and the Penguins are often the first yacht visitors of the season. There is usually still snow up on the hills (sometimes a little lower than that); the Highlands and Islands at their majestic best!

We have chartered a Westerly Typhoon "Naissa", Westerly Storm "Rosally of Clyde", and Moody 36 "Rusty Nail". This gives us a total of just 17 berths for the one week – so it is even more important than ever to get your bookings in early!

As always, Penguin invites all abilities and experience of sailors to participate – complete novices to old sea-dogs are all welcome. As well as experiencing the beauty of the Scottish scenery and the variance in its weather, you will have the opportunity to learn as much, or as little, about sailing, navigation etc. as you wish.

The cost will be £305 per person, if booked by 5th January 2006, but £320 if paid after. This will include yacht charter, organisation, food on board, fuel and mooring fees but not transport to the boarding point and from the leaving point, or personal travel insurance. A non-returnable deposit of £100 secures your place (first come, first served), with balance payable by the Reunion on 12th January. Bookings have been very strong in the past and all berths are likely to have been booked by the Reunion – SO PLEASE BOOK EARLY!

The lower age limit is 14. Forms for under-18s must be signed by the parent or guardian, and 16-17 year-olds are asked to sign for themselves in addition. This is a requirement for insurance, and you will not be able to embark if the form is not fully completed in advance. Under-16s sign to indicate that they know what is expected of them. Please fill in the booking form with as much detail as possible, this helps us to get the right balance of skills on each yacht.

As said before, Penguin invites all to come sailing, whatever your previous experience – if any, but please note that all participants must be able to swim 25 metres. If you wish to sail with a particular person, please say so on the form: and I will try to arrange it.

A note for parents and offspring – our experience is that you’ll have a better time sailing on different yachts! If you have any special dietary needs or medical conditions, please let us know: it will be kept confidential. Next of kin details will be passed to the charter company.

Finally, if you have ANY questions, please do not hesitate to contact– I look forward to meeting everyone at the Reunion and on the quayside in Scotland – David Newman.
